What Is A VPN?

VPN stands for “Virtual Private Network”. VPNs are widely used for protection when using a device. A VPN is used to connect your device (smartphone, tablet, PC or Gaming Console) to another computer that is called a server. Servers can be anywhere in the world as long as they are connected to the internet. When using a VPN, your device is browsing the web using the server computers internet connection. For example, if you are using a computer in the United States but using a VPN from Canada and somebody gains access to your device, it will look like you are browsing from Canada. Often, companies own multiple servers in different parts of the world to scramble your computers “Fake ID”. You may consider getting a VPN for privacy, web tracking or if you are browsing confidentially. A VPN can also be used to access a private network while in a different part of the world. Like, if you were in The United States but lived and worked in Canada, you could access your work and home network if you are hooked up to a VPN. Thank you for reading the EP TekTok blog. What Is Phishing?

What does the popular term phishing even mean? Well, phishing is when cyber criminals send a luring email trying to collect your personal information. This is often done via a link sent by an unknown person. These links can contain malware, viruses or even giving the sender access to your device. Clicking the links in these emails can put all of your personal information at risk. If you receive an email that looks suspicious in any way it is best to report the email to your provider using the report button and then delete the email all together. Never click on a link or a button contained within an email from someone unknown. See the post on “How to tell if an email is fake” on the EP TekTok blog to know how to check if a message is legitimate. The most important thing about phishing scams is to NEVER fall into the trap or NEVER reply to these emails. Just report them and continue as normal. Check back to the EP TekTok blog regularly to see more helpful information about technology problems today. Thank you for reading.
