What Does TikTok Know About You?

The newest TikTok trend is not a dance or a song, it is deleting the TikTok application. In early 2023 Canadian Government Officials were told to delete TikTok off of all of their devices and keep it that way. But Why? When you download TikTok onto your device you have to accept The Terms of Service and The Privacy Policy like most other applications. By touching “Accept” you are agreeing that TikTok can now access things like your watching habits, phone usage and scrolling habits. They also might be able to access much bigger things like your calendar, contacts, location and what type of device you are using. Some privacy experts are worried that the data TikTok collects about you may be shared to anyone that the company wants, raising suspicion for many people in the government or military. TikTok is owned by a much larger company called “ByteDance” which is based out of Beijing, China. The Canadian government has not been very clear about what the exact concerns are but some say that it’s the fact that the company is based in China. On February, 28th the Canadian Government met with the European Union and the United States Senate in banning TikTok from all government issued devices. These concerns are starting to convince a lot of people that they should delete TikTok off of their phones and devices too. Should You? Thank you for reading the EP TekTok blog! Currently in 2023 there are 16 different versions of the operating systems on mobile phones, tablets, laptops and The Apple Computer. After Apple developed iOS and sold devices with the software on it, Apple developed their own version of many programs. Microsoft Windows is a very popular operating system, mainly for full-sized computers and laptops/notebooks. Microsoft Windows now has over 10 versions since they started in the year 1985. When Windows was originally created not a lot of companies were using it on their computers due to the price and the effort to install it.
